The Egmont Group participates in panel discussions at the 15th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

The Egmont Group, represented by Executive Secretary Jérôme Beaumont, participated in two panel discussions at the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.

In the panel focused on international cooperation and accelerating the fight against financial crime, Mr. Beaumont joined fellow panellists Sheikha May AlKhalifa (Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF), Stephen Fry (INTERPOL), William Rich (The Wolfsberg Group), and Marie-Josée Hogue (Deputy Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada) in discussing how stronger partnerships, financial intelligence, and capacity building can help close implementation gaps and enhance global responses to financial crime.

In the second panel dedicated to PPPs, Mr. Beaumont joined Ashish Kumar (FATF), William Rich (Wolfsberg Group), and Jake Phillips (United Kingdom), to explore how FIUs and financial institutions can work together more effectively to identify, analyse, and disrupt financial crime.

Throughout both discussions, Mr. Beaumont emphasized that financial intelligence is not merely a supporting capability, but a strategic asset that helps uncover criminal networks, trace illicit assets, and enable earlier disruption of criminal activity. He also highlighted the importance of trusted FIU-to-FIU cooperation, cross-sector collaboration, and public-private partnerships in connecting information, strengthening operational outcomes, and accelerating the fight against financial crime.

The event also gave the Executive Secretary the opportunity to meet with H.E Hamid Alzaabi (Secretary General and Vice-Chair of NAMLCFTPFC and President of the MENAFATF) Ali Ba’Alawi (Head of FIU UAE), and share common values of sustained dialogue among global AML/CFT leaders.

As financial crime grows increasingly transnational and sophisticated, success will depend not on how much information we possess, but on how effectively we connect intelligence, expertise, and partnerships across borders and sectors.
