The Egmont Group, represented by Jérôme Beaumont, Executive Secretary of the Egmont Group, was pleased to present at the G20 Anticorruption Working Group Meeting in Brazil this week.
Mr Beaumont presented the Egmont Group’s role as the unique global organization facilitating operational information exchanges, expertise sharing, and capacity building among 174 FIUs worldwide. He highlighted that fighting cross-border corruption requires close and timely international cooperation. Financial intelligence plays a pivotal role in detecting, analyzing, investigating and prosecuting corrupt activities, and the Egmont Group brings added value to this process through its international information exchange mechanisms.
The Egmont Group and its member FIUs work in collaboration and engagement with the private sectors, FATF and INTERPOL to enhance cooperation in the fight against corruption.
Mr Beaumont also highlighted several key Egmont projects and reports on laundering the proceeds of corruption and other relevant reports with ties to corruption including:
- Public Summary on FIU Tools and Practices for Investigating Laundering of the Proceeds of Corruption
- The Role of Financial Intelligence Units in Fighting Corruption and Asset Recovery
- Asset Recovery – the Role of FIUs
- Financial Investigation into Wildlife Crime
Following suit, the Brazilian G20 Co-Chair highlighted the critical role FIUs and the Egmont Group play in the fight against corruption.
The meeting in Brasilia was a great opportunity to connect with current FIU Brazil (COAF) Official Marconi Melo and former COAF colleague Bernardo Mota.
