🌐 The Egmont Group was pleased to contribute to the operational perspective of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) to recent FATF Plenary discussions on fraud and scam compounds.
From the Egmont Group’s perspective, tackling fraud-related illicit financial flows requires strong financial intelligence, rapid information exchange, effective international cooperation, and a sustained focus on asset tracing, freezing, and recovery.
To help inform FATF’s ongoing work on fraud, the Egmont Group is working with FATF on a questionnaire for FIUs across our global membership. The initiative will help bring operational perspectives from the global FIU community into FATF’s ongoing work on fraud.
By bringing the operational experience of FIUs into this work, we aim to support the development of practical and effective responses to fraud and associated illicit financial flows.
The FATF Plenary also provided an opportunity for Egmont Group Chair Elżbieta Franków-Jaśkiewicz to connect with FATF President Giles Thomson and former FATF President Elisa de Anda Madrazo, reinforcing the continued dialogue and cooperation between the Egmont Group and FATF.
On the margins of the FATF Plenary, Egmont Group Chair Elżbieta Franków-Jaśkiewicz also had a productive meeting with Dr. Kari Johnstone, Special Representative and Coordinator for Combatting Trafficking in Human Beings, and Ms. Tarana Baghirova, Programme Officer, from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), an Egmont Group observer. The exchange explored areas of shared interest, including human trafficking and fraud, and opportunities for continued engagement and cooperation.
We look forward to continuing to work closely with FATF, our members, observers, and partners to strengthen international cooperation and the global response to financial crime.
