The Egmont Group, represented by Executive Secretary Jerome Beaumont, was pleased to participate in the panel discussion “Financial Intelligence in the Digital Age: Virtual Assets, AI, and Public-Private Partnerships” at the Astana Finance Days forum in Kazakhstan. Moderated by Bryan Stirewalt, AFSA Independent Non-Executive Director, Mr. Beaumont joined Lyazzat Satiyeva, Chairwoman of the Management Board, Eurasia Bank and Bhavin Shah, CEO of Sherloq.
During the discussion, Mr. Beaumont highlighted two areas that are increasingly shaping the global fight against money laundering, terrorist financing, and associated predicate crimes: digital assets and public-private partnerships.
As ML/TF and associated predicate crimes continue to evolve, effective information sharing, operational collaboration, and innovative approaches are essential. The Egmont Group has contributed to these efforts through a range of products and initiatives, including work on virtual assets and virtual asset service providers, as well as guidance and case studies that support stronger public-private cooperation among financial intelligence units, law enforcement, supervisory authorities, and the private sector.
Beyond the panel, the Executive Secretary was pleased to meet with Zhanat Elimanov, Head of the @Financial Monitoring Agency of Kazakhstan, Ulan Raissov, Deputy Chair of the Agency and Egmont Group Regional Representative for Eurasia, Timur Suleimenov, Governor of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, as well as representatives from several Kazakh financial institutions and the Astana International Financial Centre.
These exchanges reinforced the importance of international cooperation and strong partnerships across both the public and private sectors in addressing emerging ML/TF crime threats.
Our sincere thanks to the organizers of Astana Finance Days for bringing together such a diverse group of experts and stakeholders to advance this important dialogue.
