EG Leadership High-Level Meeting of the Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism – MONEYVAL

On April 25, 2023, Jérôme Beaumont, Egmont Executive Secretary, attended a high-level meeting of the Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism – MONEYVAL alongside Elżbieta Franków-Jaśkiewicz, Egmont Vice-Chair and Chair of MONEYVAL, in Warsaw, Poland.

Additional attendees included the Heads of Delegations and high-level representatives from MONEYVAL and top officials from the Council of Europe, Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and European Commission.

This meeting hosted influential exchanges of views with key international partners. It also included adopting a political declaration (that will be made public), the endorsement of MONEYVAL’s new 2023-2027 Strategy, and increasing political awareness of current and future AML/CFT challenges.

Mr. Beaumont also had the opportunity to address attendees, showcasing the EG’s mission to gather 166 FIUs worldwide to fight ML/TF. He highlighted the organization’s strategic initiatives for success, including a secure information exchange platform, training programs, and sharing expertise, typology reports, and red flags among members.

Mr. Beaumont also pointed out two objectives from MONEYVAL’s new strategy that stood out from an EG perspective: Developing a framework for engagement with observers and for coordinating technical assistance in the European region.

The EG strives to expand collaborations with partners and believes it is critical to leverage resources and develop synergies through cooperating with international organizations. This is why “Strengthening cooperation with international partner organizations” is also a pillar of the EG’s 2022-2027 Strategic Plan.

Developing a framework for coordinating technical assistance in the EU stood out since there is a significant opportunity here for the EG and the ECOFEL to be involved. Since 2018, ECOFEL has supported over 190 jurisdictions by providing innovative technical assistance and developing the first e-learning platform for FIUs, with nearly 6000 registered users and 16 eLearning courses already developed and launched.

The EG looks forward to any assistance and collaboration it can bring.
