Last week, the Egmont Group held its annual plenary, bringing together financial intelligence units from around the world to discuss and strategize on combating financial crimes. We are pleased to share some key leadership updates:
🔹 Chair: We are thrilled to announce that Elzbieta Frankow-Jaskiewicz, Deputy Director of the Department of Financial Information (Polish FIU), who has been serving as our Interim Chair, has officially been appointed as the permanent Chair of the Egmont Group.
Mrs. Franków-Jaśkiewicz has over 28 years of experience in Polish government administration, including roles in the Polish Police, Ministry of Interior, and Ministry of Finance. For the past 21 years, she has specialized in AML/CFT at the Polish FIU. She has actively participated in various Egmont Group working groups and has represented the Polish FIU in numerous international AML/CFT activities and trainings, collaborating with organizations such as FATF, MONEYVAL, UNODC, OECD, and the EU FIU Platform. Mrs. Elżbieta Franków-Jaśkiewicz has recently been recognized as one of the 75 women who have significantly contributed to the history of the Council of Europe. Her recognition is part of a project highlighting women who have promoted and reinforced the values and standards of the Council of Europe over the years.
🔹 Vice-Chair: Joining our leadership team as the new vice-chair is Mr. Mohammed Shahid Ahmed, Deputy-Director and the Chief of Staff, FIU Nigeria, whose expertise will be invaluable in our mission.
Mohammed Shahid Ahmed is the Chief of Staff at the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), where he leads international cooperation programs and supports national AML/CFT coordination. He oversees the NFIU’s relationships with key organizations like the Egmont Group, FATF, and GIABA, and manages the implementation of Nigeria’s targeted financial sanctions regime. Mohammed serves as the Regional Representative for the Egmont Group’s West and Central Africa Regional Group and has a background in Chemistry, Information Technology, and Project Management.
Throughout the week, the organization also finalized the selection procedures for several additional EG leadership roles for two-year terms, including:
- Tarek Zahran, FIU Lebanon, was selected as Vice-Chair of the Membership, Support, and Compliance Working Group.
- Mariana Currais, FIU Argentina and a representative from FIU France were selected as Vice-Chair of the Policy and Procedures Working Group
- Meriton Shoshi, FIU Kosovo, was selected as Vice Chair of the Technical Assistance and Training Working Group.
- Aileen Guzman Coste, FIU Dominican Republic and Mr. Julio Pinedo, FIU Colombia, were selected as Regional Representatives for the Americas Regional Group.
- Jacinta Kirkpatrick, FIU Australia, was selected as Regional Representative for the Asia and Pacific Regional Group.
- Bryan Eiseb, FIU Namibia, was selected as Regional Representative for the East and Southern Africa Regional Group.
- Alfred Zammit, FIU Malta was selected as Regional Representative for Europe I Regional Group.
- Michaela Schutz, FIU Switzerland, was selected as Regional Representative for Europe II Regional Group.
