The Egmont Group Chair, Mrs. Hennie Verbeek-Kusters, was invited on October 22nd, 2020, to address the important role FIUs play in fighting corruption during the G20 Virtual Anti-Corruption Ministerial Meeting. This marks the first time an Egmont Group Chair was invited to provide remarks at a G20 event.
Mrs. Verbeek-Kusters’ planned address emphasized the role of FIUs in disrupting corruption. Specifically, the Chair addressed the unique role of FIUs in combatting corruption as they are the “only organization in each jurisdiction to receive suspicious/unusual financial transaction reports related to money laundering, terrorism financing, and predicate criminal activities (including corruption).”
