Egmont Group Vice Chair Joins FIU Hong Kong’s First Global Webinar on Combating Financial Crime

🌐 On December 4, 2025, Egmont Group Vice Chair, Mr. Daniel Thelesklaf, was honored to participate in the Financial Intelligence and Investigation Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force’s (FIU Hong Kong) first-ever international webinar on combating financial crime.

The event focused on two key themes:
• Unleashing the Power of Technology in Fighting Financial Crime, moderated by Mr. Thelesklaf; and
• Mastering the Art of Public-Private Partnership, moderated by Mr. Stewart McGlynn, Co-Chair of Evaluation and Compliance Working Group of the FATF cum Head of AML & Financial Crime Risk of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
Mr. Thelesklaf was joined by five distinguished panelists who enriched the discussion with their expertise, making the dialogue dynamic and insightful.

💡 Key Takeaways from the Discussion on FIU Digital Transformation

• FIUs as Intelligence Hubs
FIUs are not just report recipients; they are proactive, data-driven intelligence centers. Technology is now a core institutional capacity, not an add-on.
• IT Strategy = Intelligence Strategy
Effective IT Business Strategies start from intelligence needs, aligning analytics, data architecture, and governance to enable scalable, secure, and mission-driven solutions.
• Privacy by Design
Privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) like Secure Multi-Party Computation, Homomorphic Encryption, and Federated Learning are essential for safe data sharing without exposing sensitive information.
• Data Quality & Interoperability
Access alone is not enough; FIUs need standardized, high-integrity data for meaningful analysis and collaboration.
• Cross-Border & PPP Evolution
Information exchange is shifting from request-response to shared analytical models. Next-gen Public-Private Partnerships are continuous intelligence ecosystems, not one-off meetings.

👥 The webinar attracted participants from financial intelligence units and law enforcement agencies from 65 jurisdictions, along with local stakeholders such as Customs, the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Securities and Futures Commission, and the Hong Kong Association of Banks.

🙏 The Egmont Group thanks FIU Hong Kong for hosting such a valuable event. We also extend our gratitude to the panelists for their valuable contributions, which made the webinar a truly collaborative and insightful exchange. This event provided a valuable platform for financial intelligence units and law enforcement agencies around the world to learn from each another, share experiences, and collectively address the new challenges posed by financial crimes.
