Melbourne, Australia, 7-8 November 2019
On 7-8 November 2019, Egmont Group Chair Mariano FEDERICI and Egmont Group Executive Secretary Jerome Beaumont attended the ‘NO MONEY FOR TERROR’ Ministerial Conference on Counter-Terrorism Financing in Melbourne, Australia.
During the event, Mr. Mariano Federici emphasized the importance of information sharing as a fundamental pillar of the fight against TF, including through more effective private-public collaboration efforts, and showcased the work that the Egmont Group has conducted towards promoting public private partnerships (PPPs).
The Chair of the Egmont Group shared the key findings from the 2018 Sydney Plenary dedicated precisely to the theme of PPPs and highlighted the opportunities and challenges that Public-Private Partnerships present for the Egmont Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs), especially in the area of countering terrorism financing.
To conclude, Mr. Federici remarked that in addition to contributing to mitigate risks in individual jurisdictions, successful PPPs can also have a highly positive impact on cross-border information sharing among FIUs, and thereby on international cooperation on AML/CFT.
