Egmont Group Chair Highlights Global Efforts to Combat ML/TF at Latin American Event

We are pleased to share that the Egmont Chair, Elżbieta Franków-Jaśkiewicz, actively participated this week at the First Meeting of Latin American Networks to Fight Transnational Organized Crime and GAFILAT member countries entitled “On the Tracks of Crime: Transnational Financial Prosecution of Criminal Organizations“, from September 17- 20, 2024, in São Paulo, Brazil.

During the opening address, Chair Elżbieta Franków-Jaśkiewicz emphasized the critical importance of international collaboration in combating money laundering, associated predicate crimes and terrorist financing. She highlighted the role of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) in helping to dismantle the financial networks that support criminal organizations. “Our collective efforts, which are based on trust and following the principles of FIUs operational independence and autonomy, are essential in disrupting the financial mechanisms of crime and ensuring a safer global financial system,” she stated. Her address underscored the necessity of shared intelligence and strategic partnerships to effectively counteract the ever-evolving tactics of transnational criminal entities.

We thank the EL PACCTO 2.0 Program, EU AML/CFT Global Facility and GAFILAT, for inviting the Egmont Group Chair, Elżbieta Franków-Jaśkiewicz to represent the Egmont Group, a network of over 175 member FIUs and counting.
