Egmont Committee Convenes in Baku to Address Strategic AML/CFT Initiatives at Intersessional Meeting

This week, the Egmont Committee (EC) held an intersessional meeting graciously hosted by the Financial Monitoring Service of Azerbaijan (FIU Azerbaijan) in Baku, Azerbaijan. The meeting was opened by Mr. Elnur Aliyev, First Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Mr. Zaur Fatizada, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Financial Monitoring Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

EC members convened to discuss key strategic issues arising from decisions made at the 2025 Working and Regional Group Meetings in January/February and in preparation for the 31st Plenary in July 2025. Key topics included enhancing international cooperation, improving data analysis techniques, and advancing the effectiveness of AML/CFT measures in line with the Egmont Group 2022-2027 Strategic Plan.

The EC is a vital consultation and coordination mechanism for the Egmont Group’s Heads of FIU, Working, and Regional Groups. The EC supports the EG’s diverse initiatives, ranging from internal coordination and administration to representation in the global AML/CFT fora. The leaders of the working and regional groups, the ESW representative, together with the Egmont Group Leadership and the Executive Secretary, make up the Egmont Committee.

We thank all EC members for their dedication to the Egmont Group’s mission and vision. The EG particularly appreciates FIU Azerbaijan for hosting this crucial intersessional meeting, which significantly contributes to the ongoing efforts to combat financial crime globally.
