Egmont Group Thanks Hennie Verbeek-Kusters for Exceptional Leadership and Service

The Egmont Group extends its sincere appreciation to Ms. Hennie Verbeek-Kusters for her outstanding leadership and long-standing service to the Organisation as she transitioned from her role as Head of FIU the Netherlands to an Executive board position at the Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA).

Ms. Verbeek-Kusters served as Chair of the Egmont Group from July 2017 to July 2019, Interim Chair between January and July 2020 and Chair for a second term from July 2020 to July 2022. During these periods, she provided steady and principled leadership at critical moments for the Organisation, and rock solid support to the Egmont Group Secretariat, contributing to the strategic direction and institutional resilience of the Group

The Egmont Group also recognizes Ms. Verbeek-Kusters for her invaluable contribution to the successful completion of a major multi-year initiative to modernize the Organisation’s secure information exchange platform. She provided strategic leadership and oversight across its development, ensuring strong alignment across technical, financial, policy, and governance areas. Today, this platform supports secure information exchange among 182 Financial Intelligence Units worldwide and is positioned to enable future technological advancements.

Ms. Verbeek-Kusters also played a central role in the establishment and development of the Egmont Centre of FIU Excellence and Leadership (ECOFEL). From its inception, she helped shape its vision and direction, leading the development and launch of its operations and supporting its growth as the Egmont Group’s dedicated capacity-building pillar. Her efforts contributed to the expansion of ECOFEL’s programmes and laid important foundations for future initiatives, including the ongoing development of the ECOFEL Certification Programme.

The Egmont Group thanks Ms. Verbeek-Kusters for her exceptional service, leadership, and guidance critical to the Organisation and to the global fight against money laundering and terrorism financing. The Egmont community wishes her every success in her new role at AMLA and is confident that her expertise, deep understanding of international cooperation and leadership will continue to benefit the global AML/CFT community.

The Egmont Group Chair and Executive Secretary attended the farewell celebration and conveyed the Organisation’s appreciation for Ms. Verbeek-Kusters’ longstanding contributions. They also had the pleasure of meeting with the Acting Head of FIU The Netherlands, Lisette Heerze.
