The Egmont Group was proud to contribute to the 2025 Global Coalition to Fight Financial Crime Summit, with three powerful interventions that underscored the strategic role of Financial Intelligence Units FIUs in the global fight against financial crime.
At the recent GCFFC summit, Mme. Elżbieta Franków-Jaśkiewicz, Chair of the Egmont Group, delivered a compelling keynote titled “FIUs at a Crossroads: Strengthening Global Intelligence Through the Egmont Network.”
Highlights from the address:
– Technology and innovation: The Egmont Group is investing in secure IT systems and training to counter emerging threats.
– Global partnerships: Collaboration with FATF, INTERPOL, UNODC, IMF, and regional bodies strengthens transnational responses.
The Chair highlighted the need for increased funding, operational independence, and trust-based collaboration to ensure FIUs remain agile and effective in the face of evolving financial crime.
“No safe havens for illicit finance”—a powerful reminder of the shared responsibility to build a transparent and secure global financial system.
Egmont Group Vice-Chair Daniel Thelesklaf (Financial Intelligence Unit – FIU Deutschland), delivered a thought-provoking intervention during the panel discussion “From Grey to Great: Turning FATF Compliance into National Confidence.” His remarks offered valuable insights into how jurisdictions can move beyond technical compliance to foster public trust, institutional resilience, and strategic credibility.
Executive Secretary Mr. Jérôme Beaumont was honoured to moderate a high-impact discussion titled “Beyond the Broken Phone: Building Modern Information Sharing Platforms for Cross-Border AML” which included Fuad Aliyev (Financial Monitoring Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan), MSCWG Chair. Mr. Beaumont opened the panel by framing the metaphor as a reflection of current limitations in agility, trust, and responsiveness across jurisdictions.
Key themes included:
– The role of platforms like Egmont’s Secure Network in enabling transformation
– Emerging solutions in crypto compliance, P2P sharing, and supervisory innovation
