At the 42nd Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime, Elżbieta Franków-Jaśkiewicz, Chair of the Egmont Group, delivered a compelling keynote on the evolving role of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) in combating financial crime.
“FIUs operate at the intersection of financial data and criminal investigation. They are often the first to detect suspicious activity and the last to ensure that intelligence leads to action.”
Key highlights from the address:
🔹 Tackling cyber-enabled fraud, environmental crime, and sanctions evasion
🔹 Expanding public-private partnerships for real-time threat response
🔹 Enhancing international cooperation with partners like INTERPOL, FATF, UNODC, IMF, and the World Bank
🔹 Addressing emerging threats including AI-enabled fraud and crypto asset laundering
The symposium also provided Mme. Franków-Jaśkiewicz with an opportunity to engage with FATF Vice-President Giles Thomson and MENAFATF Vice-President @Hamed Saif Al-Zaabi, strengthening ties with key partners in the global AML/CFT community.=
With 182 member FIUs, the Egmont Group continues to empower global efforts through secure intelligence exchange, strategic partnerships, and capacity-building.
