The Egmont Group Thanks Adv. Xolisile Khanyile, the Former Director of FIU South Africa, for her Contributions as Chair to the Organization

As her mandate as Director of South Africa’s Financial Intelligence Center comes to a close, the Egmont Group (EG) would like to thank Adv. Xolisile Khanyile for her substantial contributions as Chair to our global organization of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs).
As the first female Chair of the EG from Africa, Adv. Xolisile Khanyile’s leadership was inspirational and a driver for major developments aimed at enhancing capabilities of FIUs in fighting money laundering and terrorist financing. Adv. Xolisile Khanyile focussed her priorities on strengthening the autonomy and operational independence of member FIUs, advancing their role in public-private partnerships to enhance suspicious transactions reporting, and enhancing their cooperation with law enforcement authorities and prosecution services. In addition, through her leadership she has advanced our organization’s efforts to increase the amount of criminal proceeds prevented from penetrating the global financial system.
As EG Chair Adv. Xolisile Khanyile was a strong advocate for moving from bilateral cooperation towards multilateral coordination among FIUs, to identify, understand, and address money laundering and terrorist financing risks more effectively. Under Adv. Xolisile Khanyile’s leadership, the EG started implementing its first 5-year strategic plan, embracing a vision where the organization works collectively and collaboratively to enable member FIUs to maximize their potential domestically and internationally. Moreover, a new, advanced, and future-proof IT infrastructure was implemented under Adv. Xolisile Khanyile’s chairmanship.
The EG extends its sincere gratitude to Adv. Xolisile Khanyile, whose commitment to the EG and international AML/CFT efforts has been invaluable to our organization and has helped strengthen our ability to combat financial crimes globally. Her firm belief in the value of maintaining the integrity of the global financial system by strengthening its resiliency to ML/TF threats is admirable. The EG remains dedicated towards achieving the priorities set by Adv. Xolisile Khanyile.
The EG takes this opportunity to wish Adv. Xolisile Khanyile success in her future endeavors.
