Workshop on Financial Investigations in Wildlife and Forestry Crime, Thailand, March 2020

With the gracious support of the Thailand Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO-TH), ECOFEL hosted a successful workshop on Financial Investigations in Wildlife and Forestry Crime on March 11 & 12 in Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting aimed to facilitate cooperation amongst actors and increase FIU involvement in current efforts to combat illicit financial flows linked to the illegal wildlife trade (IWT).

Over the course of two days, FIUs, environmental authorities, customs departments, international organizations and NGOs from the Asia-Pacific region came together to explore the global problem of IWT.  Participants presented case studies, shared best practices and learned strategies for effectively building partnerships. Challenges related to the COVID-19 virus were overcome through online engagement from remote participants and effective health screening measures. The overall result was an engaging and informative event that inspired productive ideas for identifying and combatting the illicit financial flows relating to IWT.

ECOFEL would like to thank those who participated in person and remotely for their attendance and collaboration.
